I was just going through all the beautiful little crafty projects Godless Girl brought home from Kindy during 1st term, trying to think of a great, compact, way to display / store them.
There are paintings & 3d projects. Then there’s a whole slew of Easter stuff – hat, basket, bunny etc.
Of course, several items (not just the Easter ones) have little Christian messages on them: “God made me”, “Jesus gives us new life”, “God loves me” and so-on & so-forth. (Don’t forget, GG goes to a Christian affiliated Independent School).
Every time I see these messages, I take a deep breath & remind myself of all the reasons we chose this school for her – and believe me, it was NOT an easy decision. I’ll probably post about that soon.
For now, Godless Girl can’t read (though she’s doing her darndest to teach herself while I read to her), so it’s no biggy. Each time one of these items comes home, it gives me a great conversation starter with her so I can gauge what she’s picking up at school.
GM: (looking at decorated cardex framed alfoil mirror) “God made me” hey, what do you know about God?
GG: (in a sing-song voice & sounding like a parrot) God made you & God made me.
GM: What do you think about that?
GG: I think Mummy & Daddy made me.
Good enough for me!
Anyway, I’ll never forget the day Godless Girl came home proudly wearing one of her favourite creations: a big cardex loveheart, decorated with tissue paper & cellophane, with the message “God loves me” emblazoned in the centre. This forms the pendant of a necklace made of twine threaded with dried penne pasta.
Ok, ok, so it’s not spaghetti, but it’s still pasta!
Not sure if the teacher is a bit confused about which religion the school is affiliated with?!!
Maybe I’ll replace the message on the pendant with one of these:
Suddenly I feel like watching “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” again.
RAmen!
